Gamblers' feelings.

Gamblers have feelings and aspirations which are commonly different from other peoples.

Some of the feelings may be:

  • Chasing losses - losses can be recovered with higher bets.
  • Life is fair - if a person tries hard they will be rewarded. It is easy to interpret 'trying more' to 'gambling more'.
  • Being persecuted - the gambling industry is 'out to get them'.
  • Gamblers' fallacy - that independent bets are somehow connected -  e.g. a winning role, a losing streak, etc.
  • A feeling that clients  do not have their own control of their own actions -  they need to gamble.
  • Gamblers commonly consider themselves as victims - they have got at me.
  • Gamblers often feel that they have been cheated - they are encouraged to 'get back' at the gambling industry.

Our counselling may identify those feelings in clients, which may feel uncomfortable for the clients - Counselling then may challenge the reality of any or all of those feelings.
