Gambling problems 'creep up' on people. Gambling habits may start in childhood or youth, then there is frequently a 'relatively' big win which is remembered; which gamblers feel 'can be repeated' or 'must happen again'. Some gamblers may even think that gambling can be their new career.
Our counselling challenges beliefs that gambling is likely to be profitable. The reality is that the gambling industry is profitable, because gamblers loose overall. Counselling brings the reality that the client does have control if they gamble or not.
People learn from their experiences. People emphasise and remember more vividly the memories that have more importance to them. A remembered 'win' is often remembered stronger than all the smaller losses.
Gaining a new experience, of being a 'non gambler', will be the new way of life - when clients really want it.
